    As the others have answered, your probation may not cause a problem getting a passport, but you may have a problem getting into the country. It all depends on how sever your crime was and the terms and conditions of your probation. CR Immigration Officials have a central database that is interphased with the US immigration/customs/criminal records that logs each and every traveler that enters. Even if you have a US passport (or any other passport for that reason) CR official MAY red flag you as an "undesirable" and the next thing you know, you are heading home on the next available flight. It is best to check with an immigration attorney (and not your probation officer, because they know nothing about foreign laws) before heading out of country.

You can get a passport while on probation but you should ask if you should turn it in while still on probation. It is fairly common to have to turn in a passport in order to prevent people from skipping the country too easily.

You can get a passport, but I am sure it would be a violation of your probation to leave the country...ask your probation officer.
