How much do American nurses make in Costa Rica, in a hospital setting?

  • I am a RN, and am thinking about moving to Puntarenas, Costa Rica. There is a very large hospital in Puntarenas, and i was wondering how much the hourly pay is for nurses there. I currently make around $44.00/hour. I know it will be a lot less there....but i'm scared of how much less. PLEASE if you know how much nurses make an hour in Costa Rica, let me know!!!!!!!

    I'm from Costa Rica, my cousin is a RN in Costa Rica, she gets around $500 a month. More or less. Besides, CR laws are very hard with foreigners looking for a job, because the government protect the jobs for the locals. To find a job there, you have to go pretty high in the food chain in order to find something. Also, the health care is government run, so, my cousin sometimes get her money late, or sometimes half.

You need to contact the Costa Rican Embassy in order to get that information. Also, if you are planning to go there to work as an RN you will need to contact the Embassy (here in US or over in Costa). I tell you this because I went overseas to Australia in the 80's and worked for 3 yrs. and it was the best time of my life.!!!! You are so fortunate to even be able to considering this

Contact the hospital there in Puntarenas or Cima Hospital in Escazu. Then you'll have it. Read the question, Any body know something about Costa Rica ? Costa Rica's labor law is very tough, unless you have a skill that is a specialty like, computer programing, CEO, top management, do not expect to get a job. A CR nurse gets between 10-$20 a DAY!!!. The average wage scale in CR is about $500 per month.
