How To Travel And Earn Money?

I am moving to Santiago Chile to teach English. How much money do I need to earn to be able to do some travel

  • and to rent or share a small apt, etc. I am planning to stay for a year and will be teaching English. The salaries for this work vary and I don't know how much money I'll need per month to live comfortably and without worry. Thanks

Well, comfortable is different for everyone depending on what you are accustomed to, but I would say on average you would need to make around 300,000 to 500,000 pesos a month for "comfortable and no worries". You could possibly do that on a teacher's salary but that will depend on what school you work for and their cancellation policies, etc. It is possible to find very cheap living arrangements here, depending on if you are willing to live in an apartment with lots of other people. (I did it for awhile, it's ok, but make sure you lock everything up when you leave. Even better, don't bring anything valuable with you. It's just the way it is.) Another option is to find a program that puts you up with a Chilean family for your stay here. Food is still reasonably inexpensive and transportation is cheap too. Your biggest expenses will be rent and food and you have control over how much you spend on both so you should have no problems getting by on what you can make teaching English here. It's always advisable to bring a little extra cash with you just in case of any emergencies. Enjoy your stay in Chile, it's a great experience!
