What is the average cost of a round trip to Europe?

A few questions about planning a Europe trip.?

  • I'm a 23 year old male from Saskatoon, Canada and I'm planning a solo trip to Europe in probably Feb. or March 2010. I'm thinking I'll probably go for 4 weeks and need some help with the initial planning stage. Here are a few questions I had (answers to one or all of the questions would be much appreciated): 1. How many cities should I be visiting for the 4 weeks? I don't want to spend too much time in one place or not enough. 2. How much should the flight be costing me from Saskatoon to Europe? I want the cheapest possible to any destination. So far the cheapest I've found is about $900 round trip - is this reasonable or can I get lower? 3. I'm not too worried about the overall cost, but what do you think would be the minimum budget for the overall trip? What would be the budget for a comfortable trip? 4. Finland - my cousin and his girlfriend live there so I have people to show me around and a place to stay. But I'm not sure if I want to go there. To me it doesn't seem as interesting as the rest of Europe. Don't get me wrong I hear it's an amazing place to live but how about to visit? They live in Jyväskylä I believe, which isn`t very close to Helsinki. Thanks in advance for any answers you can give me.

    1. At least 6 , consider 3 days per city and time travel of 1 day . (I went to zurich, took a train to milan, then a plane to lisbon, then another plane to madrid, then to geneve, then a train back to zurich and from there to munich in 23 days) 2. yes! i live in vancouver but bought a flight from seattle to Zurich, and spend 760 Usd. 3. at least 1500 4. finland should be really cold! if you go, it should be to visit more than getting to know the place!

1) I've been around Europe for a month - it's a great experience but you get tired. Don't push it too hard. Give yourself lots of time - especially after the first few weeks. I'd say no more than 6 or 7 cities. 2) Use pricegossip.com to find cheap flights. They search 500 travel sites at once and you will always get the lowest price possible on there. 3) The Euro is strong right now so - without knowing what kind of lifestyle you have I suggest you take that into consideration. 4) Haven't been to Finland yet. Someday I hope. Doesn't seem boring at all.

I think at least 3 cities, but it really matters were you are in Europe. Hey I'll post some of my favorite on my website just give me a couple days.

don't travel too fast, give yourself time to really see the places ... absolutely no less than 3 days in each city and always include a trip out of town in each place ... I visited Helsinki Finland briefly on a cruise and would love to go back, the people were really lovely and it's a fascinating place, but of course it's going to be cold in February/March ... you can do a day trip on the ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn and I'd highly recommend it, maybe include it in your journey by flying into Tallinn, staying there a day or two, then over on the ferry to Helsinki and onwards to where your cousin lives

I can't say much about Finland's interestingness without being completely subjective, but yeah, there might not be much to do during wintertime - depending greatly on your interests etc of course; naturally there are gigs and museums, and nature, and Jyväskylä, being a university town, probably has a lot of student culture as well. You'll get from Helsinki to Jyväskylä in about three hours by train. One potential idea if you are interested in seeing your cousin, as mentioned already, would be a cruise from either Stockholm or Tallinn to Helsinki. (I linked a few example companies in the source) I think at least from Stockholm you could do a "day trip" - leave Stockholm in the evening, spend the night on board, after which there'd be like 8-10 hours in Helsinki (you could ask your cousin to visit you there!) and then back to Stockholm with the same ferry. Good luck with your trip - I'm sure you'll see lots of great stuff no matter where exactly you decide to go. :)

Dear friend, 1-I suggest u to visit just the most important places cause Europe has a lot of interesting thing to see and 4 weeks aren't too much! If u wanna make a complete tour, plan it with some stings firm: London,Paris, Barcellona, Rome and Prague. After you can organize it all. 2-I think around 1000 dollars. certanly, it's better to do from canada to England; 3-I don't know but you gotta consider that EURO is much stronger than dollar. 4-Finland is very fascinating!!!Helsinky is nice like each other European northern city;

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
