Where to go in Europe?

Traveling to europe this summer and not sure where to go?

  • For my 16th birthday my dad and i decided to go on a trip to europe, but i'm not sure where i'd like to go yet I know i'd like to go to paris and rome... where else should we go? **we haven't decided the length of the trip so feel free to share as many places as you'd like & why you like it/why we should go there

  • Answer:

Both Paris and Rome are good choices, but there are also plenty of other nice places, in fact enough for MANY holidays! From your question I get the impression that you don't live in Europe, so I guess you are a beginner when it comes to Europe? Or have you been here before? Apart from Rome, Italy, in particular Northern Italy, has numerous interesting towns, small towns, large towns etc. Siena is maybe my favourite and Tuscany is a beautiful part of Italy. Prague in the Czech Republic is also a good choice. London, definitely, the south of England, but also York. If you travel by plane (or by train if you have the time), the west coast of Norway with the fjords are really beautiful and Bergen is a beautiful town among the hills. I could for sure mention other places, but that is all I can come to think of at the moment. Good luck!

I took two months on the trains in Europe back in the day: Rome, Paris, London, Switzerland (pick a city...I went to Geneva, Zurich and Lausanne, for various reasons) Austria (You want to see Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna, maybe Gratz) Prague (wasn't possible on my trip, but a must today) Germany (pick a city or two - Berlin is supposed to be very interesting, but it's kind of out of the way - maybe fly there and back) Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Granada (that's two weeks right there) Italy: Rome, Florence, Venice and maybe Milan or one of the smaller cities. (that's another two weeks or so) I'd suggest you find a good Travel Europe book...Frommer's is really popular, Is there one for the whole continent by Rick Steves? DK makes the best travel books, but I think they are only by city/country, and sometimes region, but not the whole continent. They still print Let's Go Europe, though I'm not sure it's still the best. Go to a bookstore and browse.

Well you need to start making your mind up, because Europe is approximately the same size as the continental United States, and Paris and Rome are just two small cities in two different countries in Europe. If you are going in the summer months, be advised that the southern half of Europe can be very hot indeed, and that many businesses actually shut down for the month of August. If you're just sticking to cities, travel by train. It's much nicer than flying, and much easier on the nerves than driving, and you see more of the landscape.
