  • I'm a college student who is thinking of taking a year off to travel around Europe, or go to school over there...How much do you think it would cost me to travel around Europe (visiting most of the countries) for about nine months?

    It depends what means of transport you'd choose, accommodation and nutrition. Speed trains and internal flights are good options but are expensive. For low cost flights you can check: - WizzAir - SkyEurope - Raynair - Clickair - EasyJet (not as cheap as rumor has it) In summer there are also charter flights that can take you to more exotic or touristic villages. Some cities in Western Europe are extremely expensive and you'll need more than 30 - 40 euro /day to survive *this without the hotel overnights Central and Eastern Europe are still relatively cheap, though if you ask me, Chroatia and Slovenia are as expensive as Italy. http://blog.lessno.com

If you want to go to school in the less expensive places (not London or Paris) you'll need to bring at least 9,000 USD for nine months (1,000 USD per month - but double this for Paris and triple it for London). For travelling you'll need at least 70 USD per day, so if you are travelling for the whole 9 months you'll need roughly 19,000 USD. Note: The above is calculated on the current exchange rate. If the USD drops any lower the prices will of course go up. You also need to inform yourself on the Schengen agreement. It essentially means that you just cannot travel around Europe for 9 months without resorting to some tricks. Your stay is limited to 90 days out of a period of 180 days.
