What is Dusseldorf like?

Any recommendations for a day trip OUT of Dusseldorf, Germany?

• Hi all.... I will be in Dusseldorf (Germany) for 5 days and had another day that I was planning on taking a day trip....say leave very early in the morning and come back at night....Any recommendations where I should go? From looking at the map...it seems like Amsterdam, Brussels and Frankfurt are all close by cities....where should I go? I want to sight see and pretty much open to whatever.....I am a 30 year old woman, American and traveling alone....My travel motto is "when in Rome, do like the Romans"....so I don't need anything fancy....just want to take advantage that I am in Europe and since I will see Dusseldorf for 5 days, I can get out and see something else! By the way, I see the ICE train is the way to travel there! Any tips or recommendation are truly appreciated!!! thank you!
