  That sounds like the same problem my roommate had, but in the other direction. Your bank in Italy most likely should be notified that you are traveling in the U.S. and needs to take the fraud protection block off your account. My roommate even notified his bank he would be traveling in Europe, but they forgot there was a time difference and didn't take the protective block off his account until the morning he arrived. However, "morning" here in Florida was already afternoon in England. He had to exchange cash and get ripped off to the tune of $12 at an airport money exchange until his ATM card became active in Europe. Anyway, contact your bank and advise them that you are traveling and need to use your debit card abroad. A Cirrus-member bank there in Miami might be able to help you as well. Good luck, Louis.
