Are there any good hostels in Madrid, and are Madrid hostels cheap?

How do Hostels Function?

  • This Summer, I'm going to travel with a big group to Barcelona for a study abroad trip. Afterwards, me and 3 other friends are traveling to Madrid for a week on our own and are doing this trip on a budget, so were definitely looking at Hostels. None of us have ever done anything like this so we have no idea how they work. My biggest fear is that were going to have huge suitcases (because of the Barcelona portion) and not have anywhere to put them during the day. I saw some hostels that had lockers but no where big enough for a suitcase. Can someone enlighten me on the subject as far as the experience, and luggage storage? Also, the cost is about 20 Euros per night. Is that per person? Another place I saw had what they called "Privates" For about 50 bucks. Now is a private room just like a hotel room? And in which case can I share it with my 3 friends and split the price?

  • Answer:

Hostels provide budget oriented, sociable accommodation where guests can rent a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex, although private rooms may also be available. Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants; many hostels have long-term residents whom they employ as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation. Try some Residences in Barcelona, they are really cheap.
