London, Amsterdam, & Prague in 10 days- how to allot the time & travel between cities?
-
My fiance and I just booked a trip to Europe for our Honeymoon this summer. We will be arriving in London on Wednesday morning, July 8th, and flying out of Prague on Saturday, July 19th, leaving 10 days of travel. We very much want to spend time in London, Amsterdam, & Prague... which cities should we allocate more time to? Are there any worthwhile stops along the way, and how do you recommend we travel from London-Amsterdam, and Amsterdam-Prague? Any advice & recommendations about where to stay/what to do, etc, would be appreciated. Cheers- thanks for your help!

Answer:
With only ten days for the trip, you'll want to fly between the cities. The train trip between Amsterdam and Prague is pretty nice, but it's a 12 hour ride. You can find budget flights between given city pairs here in Europe at: http://www.whichbudget.com/ I spend a lot of time in the Netherlands. I'm going this weekend for the opening of Keukenhof. I've been using this site for years for booking hotels there: http://www.hotels.nl/ The Roode Leeuw http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/roodeleeuw/ just off Dam Square is a convenient place to stay. The Eden Rembrandt Square http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/edenrem/ just off Rembrandt Square is very nice - easy walking distance to all the sights, further from the station though if you want to take some side trips. There are lots of other good choices. Amsterdam is very tourist friendly - tons of museums and galleries and it's very easy to get around by train. Delft, Gouda, Enkhuizen, Hoorn, the beach at Zaanwijk am Zee, Haarlem, Zaanse Schans, ... http://us.holland.com/ I like the Hotel Rott in Prague. It's in a small square one block from the Old Town Square. Walking distance to Charles Bridge, the castle, Wenceslaus Square, ... Enjoy the performers on the Charles Bridge, go see the Dancing Building, try the Medovnik and Trdelnik. If you have a day for a side trip, Cesky Krumlov is great. http://www.myczechrepublic.com/prague/sightseeing/ http://www.pragueexperience.com/sightseeing/sightseeing.asp There's enough to see and do in and around each of the cities that you could easily spend the whole trip in any of them. You might just want to split the time equally.

I also recommend less time in Amsterdam. I can say it was my most disappointing city that I ever visited ( maybe I had had it built up by other people but I expected a lot and got VERY little)....I had 3 full days there and should have left after 1...its nice for the first day then its the same......THe canals are nice and the buildings when you first see them and I can recommend Anne Franks House....but apart from that little else. In contrast I LOVED Prague. I had 5 days there and did 2 full day tours to other places. Highly recommend going to Cesky Krumulov....lovely lovely little village. THe 3 other days in Prague were great. Again its small and so you can walk around the main part easily..... London would have a lot to offer. I did it in parts as I lived near London for nearly 2 years and visited it now and again, but still did not see as many touristy things as I should have. I would say 3-5days depending on what you are doing. I also loved Bruges/Brugge in Belgium...very quaint city. If I would chose a place you could go to them Paris would be it.... along with Prague was my fav city.....so much to see and do, but would need quite a few days to enjoy properly. I can give you a website for a website that has most of the cheapest ailines ...its especially good for europe and is worth a look....it may save travel time or you may get cheap flights to a city you never thought about!!
