Which is better getting a Eurail pass that includes 3 countries or buy them separtely?
-
This summer I'm going to Italy, Croatia, and Greece. Greece doesn't have a rail. I'm just wondering if it is still a better deal to get the pass then to get one for each country or get one each time we go on the train. It's confussing!

Answer:
Well, if you're under 26, you can get the 3 country pass for $306 5 days in 2 months. If you're over 26, I'd say get the Italy/Greece pass 2nd class for $296 (4 days in 2 months) or if you're traveling with friend(s) you can get saver pass for $251, or if you're under 26 you can get the Italy/ Greece pass for $245 (4 days in 2 months) You could pay the Croatia part separately (before you get on the train in Italy you can tell them to sell you a ticket from when you cross the Croatian border to your destination.) Another option is to get an italy pass and pay for greece and Croatia separately, An Italy pass is $211 for 3 days, $239 for 4 days if you're over 26, and $174/$195 if under 26. The saver pass is in between. The negative about getting the 3 country select pass if you're over 26 is you must buy 1st class. To compare that with single tickets go to http://www.raileurope.com and type in your itinerary to check point to point prices. for example: Venice to Rome is about $94 Rome to Bari (for ferry to Greece) is $70 If you get the italy/greece pass it covers the ferry between Bari and greece (may have to pay a 15 - 20 euro surcharge in high season)

Don't buy any of the Eurail passes. Total waste of money for the countries you are planning to visit. Greece has rail, but it is not worth bothering with it unless you travel from Athens or Thessaloniki to Istanbul. Croatia is the same, you are usually better off travelling by bus. And prices for train tickets in Italy are so cheap that you usually pay more for the Eurail Italy pass than for point-to-point tickets in Italy. If you don't believe me go to http://trenitalia.com/en/index.html and http://jizdenka.cz to figure out point-to-point ticket costs and compare that to the price of the Eurail pass.
