Is there a way to go from England to Amsterdam by train?

The best way to travel in europe (amsterdam, italy, england)?

  • I'm planning on flying into amsterdam, then visiting italy (maybe venice and rome), then probably going to paris to catch the chunnel to london. I was looking on the eurail website though, and it doesnt go to amsterdam. So i was thinking of taking the bus from amsterdam, and around italy possibly? Does anyone know how expensive this is and also if they search you on the bus/train/plane? I was planning on bringing some..things with me from amsterdam xp

  • Answer:

I travel between northern Italy and Amsterdam frequently. I prefer to fly. A good site for budget flights is: http://www.skyscanner.it/ . Transavia often has good prices: http://www.transavia.com/hv/en-EU/home . You can take trains with a Eurail pass, but it's a long trip and there are no direct trains from Amsterdam to Italy. You could, for example take the train from Amsterdam to Paris and then take the night train from Paris to Venice, Florence or Rome. Another alternative would be Amsterdam to Frankfurt or Munich and then into Italy. You might want to look at this website which has a huge amount of information on train travel here in Europe including selecting and using railpasses: http://www.seat61.com/ . In your case, it's likely that individual tickets will be cheaper than a railpass. You cannot use a Eurail pass in England and it is almost always cheaper to buy individual tickets here in Italy than to use a railpass. If you're talking about "things" like chocolates, tulips, etc, you won't have any problem. I would highly recommend that you don't try to bring anything illegal into Italy. The dogs are very good at picking out passengers to go through a thorough search.

Sure you can take the train to Amsterdam, why not? The police themselves don't bother searching you, they simply use sniffer dogs to find contraband like drugs - you are planning on buying drugs in Amsterdam and bringing them away with you? The dogs will find it within seconds. It's now standard at airports, and I imagine that there are dogs at platforms of train stations and bus stations for transports that originated in Amsterdam. Definitely not smart. It's the kind of thing that gets you blacklisted.

You stoner here's the deal the United Kingdom is not part of the Schengen Area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area you will prosecuted for transporting over international borders if you try that crap. Anywhere within the Schengen Area and you should be ok as long as you stick to trains and buses it's still illegal but you are less likely to be searched still not very smart. Oh by the way flying into Amsterdan is going to marked on your passport not smart as you'll be marked out as one to search with that in your passport. If I was you, fly into London then use the train to get up to Amsterdam and the stick with the train when your travelling around Europe. Trains are more fun over here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZNMp8SLbT0 Anyway depending on when your planning your trip may I recommend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzAQ0zoR1T4 that's about it. It is bad to break the law so don't blame me if you get caught. Enjoy your trip.
