Things to do in and around Frankfurt?

Things to do in Frankfurt ?

  • I am going to Frankfurt for a weekend soon. Does anyone have any advice on places to eat/drink, things to do,and nicest areas. Thanks in advance for you help

  • Answer:

There are three main entertainment areas: The red light district, which is across the main square, outside the Hauptbahnhof (mainline station)........... all very seedy and not very welcoming........ The Main South Bank, which tends to be awash with drunken American Servicemen. There are, however hundreds of good night spots! Just walk across from the Stadtmitte. Bornheim, to which the Locals go, for a decent night out. Take the U-Bahn to Berger Strasse and just roam. There are great Sports Bars, offering very decent food along with the best of beers. The Frankfurt Altstadt is a great place for rubbernecking during the day, as is Frankfurt Zoo, which is just a couple hundred metres to the east of the Altstadt. The Zoo is easiest approached, once again, by U-Bahn. There is a plethora of decent restaurants and bars around the Zoo. "The Painted House", South of the Main (probably best approached by taxi) is a very interesting Cyder House........ if you can stand Magners-type hooch......... It is best visited in a party. http://www.hot-maps.de/europe/germany/hessen/frankfurt_main/homeen.html

Personally I haven't been there, but you better take an umbrella because it rains more in Frankfurt than it does in London!

Frankfurt is beautiful but not really exciting at this time of year. I doubt that there will be any festivals but check online. My favorite part of the town is "zeil" an amazing street where all the tourists walk and it's full of shops and nice stores and malls. It's very close to the beautiful river as well. You can see so many different bars around that area and meet interesting people. Also a nice mixture of old and new buildings are within few minutes walk :) Have a good time and drink some good German beer!
