What age do you have to be to travel south-western Europe by yourself?

I Want to travel the world (Europe Specifically)!?

  • Hi everyone... So, I need some help. I am 16 and extremely interested in traveling; not as a profession, but just in general, while I'm still young and don't have an intense job holding me down. I was accepted into this program that would have allowed me to go to Europe with a group of kids my age but it wasn't exactly what I wanted. See, in the program, they controlled a lot of what we were able to do and some of it was really lame and childish. For example, we would dress up and do little skits which would have been fun if I were closer to the age of 12... anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows ANYTHING about a program similar to that but maybe the program allows a lot more freedom to the kids. I am actually going to a pre college program by myself in New York for one week in a couple of days. They give a LOT more freedom. It's kids my age getting ready for college, and we'll be staying in dorms, studying what we want to major in, etc. We have a curfew, but we also get to roam free after our classes. I am looking for something similar to this, but I want so terribly to travel Europe! I know most of these programs aren't super cheap, but I would find a way. Also, I am paying myself for the New York pre college trip which is around 2,000, so I think I could save for Europe. Also, I HAVE heard of birthright, a trip for jewish young adults and I will be doing that with my sister. That one is a free program, so I am VERY excited! (I am half Jewish, so I'm taking full advantage! I would also be VERY willing to go on a trip for Christians, considering I am also half christian. That may help a little bit in finding a trip for teens/ pre college students.) I would really prefer a program for kids my age, kind of like a teen pre college experience. It would also be great if I didn't have to spend too much on it, so obviously I would prefer if it were a free program but I understand that MAY be unrealistic. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING will help; I am pretty desperate! Please help me! Thanks Much!

  • Answer:

Countries have different rules as to ages. Usually 18. You might call the Embassy/consulate of the country you are interested in traveling to.

Well, I know that many churches have traveling programs for teens. I haven't done one myself, but I think it's just something you sign up for as "I'd be interested in going to ___". The churches that do provide this program save some money specifically for this purpose. I know someone who recently went somewhere (I think it was Costa Rica) through his church traveling program. Since you mentioned that you would like to go on a trip with Christians your age, you might consider finding out if your church has such a program. Hope this helps!
