What are the different jobs in hotels?

How do you apply for jobs on hotels in norway?

  • i would like to find a job where i dont have to speak norsk all day long.. (though i can speak and understand some norwegian so its not really a problem). since i can speak fluent english, i thought i might as well find a job where i can use it but im not sure what kind of job should i pursue. i live near ulsteinvik and i would like to apply on hotels nearby for work but i cant seem to find their ads on either finn.no or nav. so my question is, how does one usually apply for jobs on hotels and how will you know if they have an opening if they dont advertise on the web or newspaper? same goes with DHL or any international companies, should i just go there in person and ask if they have jobs available?( that seems a little embarassing. lol ) thanks in advance for all the input.

  • Answer:

When I first moved to Norway, I applied for some hotel jobs and was told that the working language was Norwegian. They said Swedish would be okay as long as I understood directions in norsk and my coworkers wouldn't have to resort to English (I speak fluent Swedish, but wasn't used to Norwegian). The jobs were advertised on Finn, or I found them through placement agencies like Adecco. You register your CV with them, apply for jobs through the internet, and they usually call you in for an interview within a few weeks. A lot of the service jobs (like hotels) hire only through these agencies. However, you will probably have to do at least the interview in norsk (I did), they want to see how much you can communicate. http://adecco.no http://manpower.no http://proffice.no Otherwise, you can write a cover letter and CV and leave it with companies you're interested in. It works best if you find out the name of the HR or hiring person and address it to them personally. If you don't want to use norsk at work, the best possibilities are usually in administration for shipping, oil/gas and others that do mostly international business. Some personal assistant jobs are also okay with using English. You should also use every contact you have, ask if they know any open positions at work or can help you.. it's usually the easiest way to get a job.
