International Driving Permit?

Driving in Europe with International Driving Permit?

  • I am planning to drive a car in Schengen States, I've a license and an International Driving Permit.. I was just wondering, what sort of traffic rules, I should take care of ?? And are the same fines apply for locals, apply to International drivers as well or do we get some leniency? Also, what sort of fines are there especially in Italy, Switzerland and Spain.. I am a good driver but just fearful of breaking the traffic rules, as they are not very strict in the country, I live and drive in... Let me know. Thanks.

The biggest factor here to consider before answering is this : Will it be your own car or a hire car ? - As far as leniency is concerned in Spain you are unlikely to get none. Most of the Guardia Civil speak at least some English (so the language Barrier is no excuse) and on some motorways the Speed Cameras have been specifically programmed to read and recognize Non-Spanish plates. As long as you abide by the speed limits and the laws you be fine. Here is a quick overview of just some of the driving laws in Spain that you should be aware of - http://www.tumbit.com/how-to-guides/articles/13-what-is-the-law-regarding-driving-in-spain.html
