How to get to New Hope by Train?

What's the best way to get from Amsterdam to England?

  • Next year I plan to travel to Amsterdam all the way across Belgium, into France and finally England by crossing the Dover strait. Do you know if there is a train I could take that would go from Amsterdam to Calais France? If so how much would it cost? And how much would it cost to take a ferry to England? Do I have to get my passport checked every time I enter a new country? -Basically, What is the best way I can get from Amsterdam to England going through the land of Europe? Also is there anything else you think I should know? I hope you guys can help me and thanks! -P

Ok, if you don't want to go by plane then you have a couple of choices namely by hire car, by coach or by train <Hire Car> Expensive way to travel. Petrol (gas) is expensive as is parking, and if you want to retun the car in another country then you will pay and arm and a leg. So I would rule this out immediately. <By coach> This is usually the cheapest way to travel and I did it a fair few times as a student. As well as being cheap you can just sit back and enjoy without any hassle. It's not as comfortable as a train it has to be said, and the journey time is long (approx 10 hours to London), but it includes the ferry crossing in the ticket and is an easy and cheap way to travel especially if you are 25 or younger. You also have to bring your own food and things for the journey whereas on the train you can use the buffet car (although it is expensive!) There are always "fun fares" between Amsterdam and the UK. On the website currently they are advertising a one-way fare from Amsterdam to London for €17. http://www.eurolines.nl/#2. <By train> If you book well in advance then you can get a decent fare. It is more expensive than by coach, but also more comfortable and a shorter journey. The promotion fare being advertised to London currently is (one-way) €50 and a travel time of 5 hours and 45 minutes http://www.nshispeed.nl/en/great-britain/london This also includes the cost of the crossing of the channel (via the channel tunnel so not by ferry) Personally I take the car normally but then I have kids and a lot of stuff as well. If it was just me travelling then I would go by train if I had the choice. You will not get your passport checked from every country, but you may be checked on the train if required, and it definately will be checked on all routes just prior to the crossing to the UK (across the Channel which is what I think you mean by the Dover Strait). What else to tell you? Well, book in advance if you want a cheap fare, take something (music, book etc) to keep you entertained on the journey and most importantly of all......... have fun!
