What are good places to visit in Europe?

  • I plan on having a month or two long vacation in Europe, I have some places I want to go to but would like to know what are you favorite places and maybe a short description of why. I like historical places but that's not a big factor in my vacation. So what are your ideas?

  • Answer:

First we must establish: Europe is not country, it is a Continent It contains countries. 50 of them. so please specify which countries you have in mind, and I will be happy to give you a suggestion or two.

Just about any place here can be good. Certainly there are lots of historic sites here in Italy along with great art, architecture and music, wonderful food, interesting culture and traditions, good beaches, scenic beauty, sports, ...

Barcelona: i went there and it was amazing. there's a long road with branded shops and even a kind of ethnic market on sundays near the sea so it has everything. Venice: i'm going in july because it's so beautiful. Slovenia: it's my fave country. there wasn't one place i didn't like. Austria: probably my second fave country. it's full of mountains and nature. Munich: i've seen little of it but i decided i want to live one there, so it's nice. Amsterdam: there are a lot of museums and the canals.. it's all so beautiful.

Scandinavian Nordic countries are very pretty and also historical, there are a lot of old interesting buildings and castles to explore. Sweden is nice, Stockholm is kind of built around water which is a nice effect, it's a mix of historic and modern so the architecture is really good. They have a monarchy and a 300 yr old palace, + a popular tourist museum called Vasa Museum containing an old shipwreck where you can go look at the boat and stuff that sank centuries ago, that's pretty interesting. There are also a lot of nice cafes and restaurants, and Sweden has super-unique fashion + furniture stores. Austria is also nice, it has tons of cute little houses and buildings, and really beautiful lakes and moutains.

My favourite places in Europe: UK: Edinburgh, London, Anglesey France: Paris, Lyon Italy: Florence (beautiful), Venice Slovenia: Ljubljana, Lesce Bled (Lake Bled) - fairytale castle overlooking a lake. Hungary: Budapest Croatia: Split, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Plitvice Lakes Poland: Krakow Czech Republic: Prague (although a bit too touristy and full of stag parties) I'm going to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the summer, Sarajevo and Mostar are supposed to be amazing places to visit. I haven't been to Barcelona, but my friends said it was fantastic. Budapest, Paris, London and Split all have good nightlife, and there's a summer festival held at Zadar in Croatia that's supposed to be good. Zagreb has quite a good nightlife, but is very quiet on Sundays and out of season. Pula in Croatia has a Roman ampitheatre, and Split has Diocletian's palace, which is also Roman. For art and architecture, try Florence, or for the grandeur of the Hungarian parliament building I would go to Budapest (there's a good view of it from Fisherman's Wharf in Buda on the other side of the Danube). Lyon in France is a beautiful historical city with an area of narrow winding alleys and jumbled buildings in the old lace quarter. Paris is always good - go up to Montmartre and visit Sacre Coeur, as the view across Paris towards the Eiffel Tower is second to none. Another beautiful historical city is Krakow in Poland, where you can visit Schindler's factory and the old Jewish ghetto, as well as the castle and main square. Finally, if you visit the UK, you can go down in the old underground city in Edinburgh and see original cobbled alleys and remains of old houses (with original wallpaper), all down in the city crypts - it's very creepy. I think we booked with The Real Mary King's Close, which is supposed to be one of the best Edinburgh underground tours. Have a good time :)
