Trains from Barcelona to Paris?

Study abroad in Paris or Barcelona?

  • I want to do a semester abroad in college, and I want to know which city is better Paris or Barcelona? I've never been to neither, and I love learning languages but I'm a native Spanish speaker, and Catalan is not spoken widely, so there is not much use to it. French, on the other hand, is a very international language. But, I've heard Parisians can be a little impersonal, and the weather in Spain is nicer and warmer (I hate the cold). So... I don't know, has anyone lived in either city? Any recommendations? Do you think I could make French friends in Barcelona since it is so close to France (I could learn French like that without being in Paris)? Or is Paris a place I shouldn't miss?

  • Answer:

Both cities are great - it really depends on what you are looking for. If you want to learn French, then definitely go to Paris. Parisians are not really as impersonal as they're made out to be. If they see you putting in some effort to learn their language, they tend to be quite receptive and eager to work with you. Barcelona is an amazing city as well - beautiful, great nightlife, and amazing weather - but if you already speak Spanish, and learning a new language is more important for you, then I'd say stick with Paris. You can take a trip to Barcelona while you're there.
