Can i extend my AA breakdown cover to France?

We are planning a road trip round europe - anyone have any tips or experiences?

• we are going to drive from somerset in the UK to dover and then hop across to calais then making our way through belgium, germany, austria, switzerland, italy, monaco and then back up to the top of france to get the ferry across to portsmouth. we will be driving my 1975 mgb gt - has anyone had any experience of doing something similar or has good tips on things like breakdown cover, car repair insurance (if it exists!) e.t.c ? by the way we are planning to do this over 2 weeks so camping in certain places on the way!

  What an ambitious trip! My father restored a 1974 MG-B. It turned many heads when we'd drive around town. Frequently it also turned heads as it traveled home on the back of a flatbed truck when its fuel pump would give out. Hence, advice #1: carry an extra fuel pump! Two weeks is an awfully short time to cover so many countries. In order to get the most out of your experience you may want to extend the time or reduce the number of places you'll see. Were it me, I'd stick to taking trains and not having to fuss over parking, getting lost in strange cities, wondering if the car's going to get broken into while I slept, etc. But if I was to make it a road trip, I especially would do it in a car that was a bit more reliable. As for breakdown coverage, check with your insurance agent to see what s/he recommends. They may have an extended, temporary policy you could add just for your trip that might also include towing while abroad. Also check with the RAC if you're a member. I think they have reciprocal agreements with other auto clubs, such as Germany's ADAC. Bon voyage!
