How much would it cost to travel around Europe?
-
I want to stay in Europe for around 3-6 months, stay in one country from a couple days to a couple of weeks and have it so whenever I want I can pick up and head to my next destination.. I'm wondering how much would it cost, when is the best time to go and maybe how to get from place to place.. This is my dream though at the moment I'm only 15 years of age, but I plan on going after I graduate High School (preferably) Or if I should go after I graduate Uni.. Anything else you think I should know before I go would be great, xD Thanks in advance my lovelies!

I teach a college seminar on independent travel in Europe for newbies. First, if you remain in Europe for less than three months, you will not need a visa. If you want to stay longer, you will have to get visas for the different countries you plan to visit. You will have three main expenses: 1) Your airfare. Visit www.farecompare.com to check several different travel sites at once for airfare into Europe from your closest gateway city. Remember that fares into London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam are often cheapest (but not always). 2) Your railpass. A Eurail Selectpass will probably be your best choice, though as you want to travel a lot, you may need to consider the more expensive unlimited-use Eurailpass. Visit www.raileurope.com to see how much passes cost. 3) Day-to-day expenses. Currently the British pound sterling is worth $1.56 and the euro is worth $1.26. That changes from day to day. Budget around $65 to $75 per day for expenses, including accommodations, meals, souvenirs, admission to museums and landmarks, going out, etc. Some days you will spend less; some you might spend more. You'll save money if you stay in hostels and pensiones, and eat your main meal in the middle of the day taking advantage of restaurants' daily specials, then fix an "urban picnic" for your supper with meat, cheese, beverages, fruit, etc. from a market. Of course, there's a lot more to it than that, but those will be your basic expenses, and should allow you to derive a good, solid budget to start saving toward. You are planning early. Brava for you!

Start saving, get a job and save a certain amount every week until you graduate HS or uni. I would have 10k saved before traveling anywhere for 6 months total.
Well it really depends if you stay with family or in hotels. Because in europe some of the currency is almost double the US dollar so if you stay at a hotel with 100 euros/pounds a night. it will cost almost 200$ per night! But not everywhere is that expensive. Plane tickets cost maximum at 1200 even in couch just to get there. But then you'd have your excursions, souvenirs, and hotel expenses. for 3-6 months it may cost between the amounts of 14,000$-26,000$ depending on where you stay and if you eat and stay at exotic places. But if you stay at cheap places and not very fancy restaurants it can be down to maybe 10-16 thousand. The best way to travel is by train because it's the cheapest in europe. The best time to go would be summer because it has very good weather. Hope this helps! P.S. I have been on a european vacation with 3 others and and it costed 14,000$ for the 4 of us by staying in england and france which are the most expensive countries in europe. So divide 14,000$ by 4 and you will get your fraction of what you would have to pay if you stayed in england and france for 2 1/2 weeks (how long i stayed in europe).

For 3-6 months, probably like.... $12,000 if you stayed in hostels and ate really, really cheap.
With a British passport you can stay in Europe as long as you want, you can even work in all of the EU and EEA countries, at this time that is about the same as the EU and Schengen countries. When you want to work and when you want to stay in a city for more than a few weeks you may have to register, but can not be denied, with only a USA/Canadian passport you could and often would be denied long term stay. Traveling around now costs about $US 100 per day when traveling alone, although young people do get many reductions and can travel for less if they are very careful. But by the time you want to travel prices will have gone up and exchange rates will have changed. Keep an eye on what people advice, but for now you can aim at those $100 per day. Your flights will come on top of that. If you really want to spend 6 months in Europe, consider doing a school or university exchange or to do a year in England, if your high school results are good you could go to an A level college rather than an American college, but do check with your advisers at school, as they will know the requirements and whether you can do it instead or will need still need college in your own country if you want to study there.
