What can I do in Frankfurt on Monday?

What is difference between Frankfurt and Frankfurt am Main?

  • What is difference between Frankfurt and Frankfurt am Main? Thanks

  • Answer:

Well, the "Franken" were a tribe in Europe. A "Furt" is a passage/ford (in a river, you know?). And when those people crossed a river, some others might have started a town there. And then called it: "the passage of the francs", meaning Frankenfurt in German. Of course because of shortening of words, then it comes to Frankfurt. There are 2 important towns in Germany with this name: Frankfurt/Main (Frankfurt am Main) Frankfurt/Oder (Frankfurt an der Oder) "Main" and "Oder" are names of rivers. Main is in the Wst of Germany, Oder in the East. The city Frankfurt/Main is more important and often only referred to as "Frankfurt".
