I'm an American, how can I be a nurse in Sweden? Other questions in the detail section. Please help.?

I really want to live in Sweden. It's been a dream of mine for a long time. I also know I want to be a nurse. I've heard of RNs who were from America and became nurses in Sweden but I don't know how they did it, what they need to do, etc. All I know is that I should be fluent in Swedish because I'd be working with elderly people who wont majorly speak English. So, what should I do, need to do, in order to become a nurse in Sweden? My initial plan was to attend UC Berkeley as a Nursing major and minor in Swedish. I don't know if that plan is any good. Are there other careers that would be easier, better, more abundant to follow if I wanted to live in Sweden? I want to know all my options. How would I be able to stay there? I'm engaged to another American so I can't get a permanent resident permit cause I don't have family ties there or a significant other that is a Swedish citizen? All I know is that I want to live in Sweden. I can forgo the Nurse dream if I have to. What should I do to settle in Sweden? What is the best course of action? Thank you for your help.

Answer:
Sweden is marginally easier to get into the Schengen countries but not by much. Yes, that's the rest of the world turning the greencard system back at you. Nursing is a good profession, there's a shortage of them almost anywhere. What you need to do: 1. contact the swedish embassy and talk work permits 2.find out what's needed to get an american RN recognized in Sweden. Yes I could help you with more details but if this is beyond you then I think you are really biting off way more than you can chew

Citizens of countries outside the Nordic area and the EU/EEA area wishing to work in Sweden have to obtain a work permit before coming here. In order to obtain a work permit they must, among other things, have a written offer of employment in Sweden. They apply for a work permit through a Swedish diplomatic mission in their country of origin or residence. Permit applications are decided by the Immigration Board, usually after consulting the county labour board.
