Train. you can visit MOST of continental europe by visiting thecity during the day, and then sleeping on the train ride to the next country!!! that way you dont even pay for hotel stay :) but if you must sleep in a place, try the backpackers hotels, or the specialty rooms for traveling students which are only like $20-50 per night. :)

IMO a mix of all of the above plus walking and cycling. I personally would fly south with a bike and then cycle north. I would take the bus or the train if I was fed up with cycling or in bad weather. I would take a tent and camping gear along. In a pinch I could always pitch my tent for free in a field, saving myself the cost of accomodation. Cycling is definitely the cheapest way to get home - and it is good for your health too. It is roughly 3000 kms from Cadiz to Inverness. If you cycle roughly 30 kms per day (one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening both times going easy) you can be home in 100 days or less. Madrid to Manchester is 1700 kms, it would take you roughly 60 days to cycle the distance. If you like to visit places try by train.From the plain you ll not look at anything.Cruises and taxis are expensive.
