  Will try to explain the situation as it is a rather complicated: First and foremost the law that applies to you is the law of your country of residence so if you are not allowed to drive a a car and "Trailer" in your home country then you cannot do so in Czech Republic as the law of your home country applies retrospectively in Czech Republic 1. We assume from your question you have a licence issued by an EU country. All EU countries use the same basic law. 2. If 1 is fact, then there are two scenarios (a) First licence issued (passed driving test) before 1.1.1997. in which case your licence includes categories C1 and C1+E, thus you can drive any combination of vehicle and "trailer" up to a Gross Combination Weight of 7.5 tonnes. Gross Combination wight being the weight of the towing vehicle, the "trailer" all passenger and the load. (b) First licence issued AFTER 1.1.1997. You are restricted to driving vehicles towing a "trailer" up to a maximum Gross Combination Weight of 3.5 tonnes 3. If the later is the case then you would need to take a further test to obtain category C1+E if the Gross Combination Weight is over 3.5 tonnes. 4. A further complication, one we have seen many times. If the Gross Combination Weight exceeds 7.5 tonnes a C+E licence is required 5. If the Gross Combination Weight exceeds 3.5 tonnes and the towing vehicle is designed to carry more than 8 people (including the driver) D+E licence is required. 6. If the Gross Combination Weight exceeds 3.5 tonnes the towing vehicle must be fitted with a tachograph - either analogue or digital depending on date of manufacture.
