What are switzerland's immigration requirements for other European citizens?

• I know that Switzerland is in Schengen but not the EU. Does this mean that citizens from other Schengen countries can live and work in switzerland? As Britain is not in Schengen, what are the immigration requirements for British citizens? Are they only allowed to stay in Switzerland for a limited time without a visa, and if they want to move to Switzerland what are the requirements?

  Your right to stay in Switzerland as British citizen has nothing to do with Schengen but it is based on an agreement between Switzerland and the European Union which grants Swiss citizen to live and work in all EU countries and EU citizens to live and work in Switzerland. All EU citizen can stay in Switzerland for up to three months without former formulities. For a longer stay they either must be employed, self-employed, students, or self supporters who hold sufficient funds to live in Switzerland without becoming a burden to the social security system of the country.
