What do you think is the nicest city in Germany?
-
I'm doing research for my book, which includes a German character. I've never been to Germany, yet I still have to pick a city (or one to base it on) for the girl to grow up in and or for her to visit. Before I hit the library, I wanted to ask: If you've been to Germany, what do you think was the nicest city? (And can you please tell me about your experience?) [nice being just an overall pleasant place to be] thank you.

Answer:
I adore Munich. Friendly people, great Museums, beautiful country. I travel there most years and never fail to meet some of the most wonderful people and visit some of the neatest places. Amazing history.

The choice has to be between Berlin, Dresden, and Munich. Hamburg is also greatly underrated. Berlin is the most modern and most interesting city to visit in Germany. Dresden is architecturally the most stunning city in Germany. Munich has the most pleasantly relaxed and nature-loving lifestyle in Germany. So, if you are talking about ppleasantness I would have to say Munich. However, personally I would rather live in Berlin if I had a choice.

Germany has many different interesting Cities with their own beauty. If you write about Germany, maybe Berlin would be a good City to talk about since Berlin was splitted between west and east (East Berlin and other parts of Germany didn't belong to Germany anymore for a long period) and even after the Wall (leftover from World War II) came down, you still can see the difference between both parts. East Berlin suffered a lot and it still shows it "wounds" from World War II. I would definitely look it up in the library. You will find informations about John F. Kennedy's visit there. His statement"Ich bin ein Berliner", translated I am a Berliner, made history... enjoy!

Kaiserslautern is a nice city, very beautiful. The people are very nice and welcoming to Americans. Sembach is a very small village, that is also very beautiful and well kept. Most of the people don't speak english there. You can do a search on both locations and get more info.

My (American) parents lived in Munich for seven years, and they CONSTANTLY talk about how much better it was than London, Moscow, Saudi Arabia, Venice, and New York.

Hamburg is the most beautiful. But just the city and NOT the people.
