What do I need for backpacking around Europe?

Planning a backpacking trip around Europe. I need a lot of help!?

  • I want to go to: England, Spain, France, Italy, and Germany What cities in each country? How long would you think most? I have to go to Spain because my friend lives there, and Germany because I have family there that I have not seen for a long time! How much money per day? Also, what order? What is the cheapest way to travel, eat and sleep? Must see attractions? What kind of stuff do you recommend packing? Type of backpack? Do I need a sleeping bag? Amount of money I need? Do I need a visa? Important documents I should take? What is that Student ID card? Should I rent a car? Any useful tips?? SORRY!! I know I am asking LOTS of useless questions but I really need these answered. Thanks! I greatly appreciate it :)

Hi, Preparations for a journey are always busy: hotel/hostel reservations, preparation of luggage, go by plane or bus, unpacking clothes when you get to the destination and installed in the hotel/hostel room only for a few days then start again preparing to return home. Your tour will take at least 10 days, depends how much time you want to spend in each locations. Here are some tips for packing: 1.Buy a thermos to you to prepare your coffee or tea at the hotel. A cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea at the restaurant costs more, and these costs are added to your travel budget. If instead, you prepare yourself in the hotel room coffee or tea with a small stove, you can save a lot. 2. Put the bag a bag of snacks when you go for a walk. Vendors near tourist monuments used to add its much higher commissions on all products. So when will you be hungry for snacks, you will not have to give five euros for a bag of pretzels or low pay three euros for a half bottle of water. 3. Find hidden cultural objectives, instead of crowding up the majority of tourists visit the national museum in the city. Can you ask locals for recommendations for restaurants and other entertainment and cultural activities. Are likely to find a much more interesting and cheaper than the program carried out by the guide. (more on http://www.europevia.org/international-travel-tips) About the documents you should always take your passport with you, and also a European health card/travel insurance will be good. The travel insurance is not compulsory and border crossing is not subject to presentation. If you have the time, of course rent a car. There are many beautifully places to see. Good luck!

buy a "student" euro train pass which is the best way to travel. While you are on the train keep a good eye on your bag some suggest to tie it to the baggage compartment. The train is the best way to travel in europe cars are very expensive and so is the gas. Google Euro train pass All the countries you have listed are excellent. Go to your local libray and they will have travel books your can read. Frommers has a great website and good suggestions for keeping your cost down. While you are in any big city take the "Red Bus' tour...they have a website too. Some youth hostels are not safe for women so be sure to find a site that will list this info.

If you want to undertake something like this you will have to do some research yourself. If you live very, very cheaply you could get buy on a 100 euros a day Cheap travel, hitchhike, eurolines busses. Possibly an interrail pass. Certainly NOT a rental car Cheap food.. buy things from a supermarket. SEe if there's university restaurants open to travellers. Sleep... couch surfing. Hostels. Order..depends on the plane tickets I think and pricing of those never makes sense. Need for a visa depends on your nationality and the duration of your stay. Time..2-3 days in a city is bare minimum. Start by buying a lonely planet guide.

If your American/Canadian you will not need a Visa. Just bring a passport. Start in England. Fly to Spain. After exploring Spain, take a train to France. After France, take a train to either Germany or Italy. After whichever one you explored, fly to the next one. The Alps will make a train more expensive than flying, most likely. I would actually recommend a train to Italy, and then a short flght to Germany, and fly home from Germany because it is usually easier. Use a backpack, and pack lightly. Remember you can always buy more stuff when you are there. Flights in Europe are cheaper than the USA. But use a train when you can. Do not ride OR fly first class. Cheapest way to sleep: Couchsurfing.com. It is safe. If you are not comfortable with that use Hostels. If you use Couchsurfing, you may score free food. Other than that, shop at local markets. Do not rent a car. Do not purchase a EuroRail pass. Tip: Learn some basics of the local languages.
