Luggage Storage at Train Stations in Europe?

• My friend and I are traveling through Europe this summer to the following countries: Portugal Spain France Netherlands Germany Czech Republic Switzerland Italy Croatia Greece We were just wondering, if there are nights that we want to wonder around and not have our luggage with us if all train stations have storage, and how much it costs? Also wondering if the train stations close at any time? Or are most 24 hours? Thanks!

  Most stations will be closed during the night, some might be open for going to the trains only, and then only if you hold a ticket/reservation for a train leaving within an hour. In many cases you can store your things overnight, but you will not have access to them during the night. With lockers it is mostly one fee for one use up to 24 hours, although there are exceptions to that too, with a left luggage office it might well be that you will have to pay two daily fees if you do not collect the same day as when you hand your things in. Not all stations will have left luggage facilities, but most major railway stations will have them. You can mostly check it on internet by searching for the name of the station and luggage or by reading your Lonely Planet (or other) guidebook. Most people will have a hotel room, or a place in a hostel, and will leave there luggage there, at no extra cost. Cost of luggage storage in stations differ widely, even within one country, and can run op to €5 per item in some places. I have not stored luggage recently, I have learned to travel with so little that I can keep it with me most of the time, although I do leave it in the place I stay overnight, but in the past I used to use them all the time.
