How do I get a job as a vineyard worker in France?

Fundraising idead for peope to people?

  • I've recently got invited to go to a people to people trip in the countries of belgum, neatherlands, france, ireland, and whales! I got the invitation last school year and wasnt able to come up with the money as soon as they needed it ($6500) So later after i never reached them back, a worker of theirs contacted me about it and we talked and i told her i couldnt come up with the money. She was very understaning and she said that they are going to put me on the list for next summer, which will give me some time to get all of the money together. I've recently gotten a part-time job at a fast food resturant to help come up with the cash because my family cant spare a couple thousand dollars. Are there any ideas as to raising money for this trip along with my job? I know i want to go because they offer things you wouldnt be able to do if you just went with some friends and also because my cousin has been on a few trips and it was a life chinging experience for her. :)

  • Answer:

These trips are very expensive and most kids going say they are much like any group travel. So better save up for a school trip which will be less overpriced. Any travel will be life changing, but the amount of money you need for a people to people trip is going to ruin almost all your fun for a long time to come. Travel is not worth that. People to people will likely come again each summer as long as you fit in the age group, they want your money.

Have you read the reviews on "People to People"? To say it is a scam would be untrue. To say it is questionable in its integrity..well? The whole idea of being "invited" is rather incredulous, again a tactic used to gain interest, make you feel special. Anyone who can come up with the outrageously expensive fees can go. Anyone. Take the time to read the Wikipedia information about this program. Specifically, pay attention to the numbered items found at the bottom. Read those articles before you decide to waste your money. Read about Tyler Hill's death and the settlement that the program paid; read about the "invitation" to a dead cat to join the program. All very sad.

This People to People thing is an expensive travel agency. If you look for the same trip yourself online, it will be so much cheaper. You are aware,I guess, that people all over the world are already in contact with each other. You are not really doing anything more than supporting the financial motives of a company who bought your name and address from a mailing list. Everybody gets junk mail and the mail is so specific. The mailing lists will know your age, school status, your relatives names and ages, your own birth date. It is simply amazing how much information is already out there. As for as age-specific mail goes, when you reach college age, you will be inundated with college related mail. " Take this test online," they say. Wales, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Ireland trip that is a travel agent-escorted tour should run about $2500 including a lot of the expenses such hotel, food , transportation. These countries are top tourist attractions for everyone, and they're not all adjacent, so that makes it even more expensive. Its your job to be able to smell out such situations. That means don't spend your money on unnecessary things. So they want you to raise money for this?! Incredible that they want to rip you off. Just try asking THEM for a grant/scholarship. See what happens then.

You do realise that People to People is a massive and expensive scam? YOu could do the same trip for a third of the price. Oh, and everyone gets "invited", so you are NOT special

I've heard it can be a really great experience, too - traveling of any kind at a young age is a cool opportunity. I think it's good that you're helping to raise the money for the trip, and that you'll appreciate the experience even more because it wasn't just "handed" to you. Some other things you can do would be small jobs for family friends and neighbors, like raking leaves, weeding a garden, walking dogs, and babysitting. You could also "pledge" to do a certain number of community service hours in exchange for donations, like picking up trash or serving food at a local homeless shelter. Some people do well if they focus on projects like bake sales, yard sales, or car washes. There's no reason why you can't do a little of all of that. People to People has a lot of fundraising tips on their website, which you might find useful, too: http://p2ppayyourway.com/ I definitely encourage you to do your own research on the program, like others suggested. However, keep in mind that most companies have ups and downs, and if you want a balanced point of view it will help to look at multiple sources. You might even want to check out People to People's Facebook page to hear directly from parents and students who've participated in their programs in the past (or are about to): http://www.facebook.com/PeopletoPeopleAmbassadors. One final resource. Here's a breakdown of how People to People compares to similar types of travel programs. Some keys seem to be 1) safety 2) all-inclusive price, including flights. http://www.peopletopeople.com/Reviews/Pages/ProgramCost.aspx
