What cheap hotel or hostel did you stay in while in Paris?

As a single male traveler from the US, should I stay in a hotel or hostel while in Rome?

  • I can book a hotel room for the same price I could book a single hostel room (not shared and have my own bathroom). Money doesn't influence that decision. I am just over 30 years old and will be alone. There is a hostel with a bar in it that sounds like a fun place to stay that presumably will be full of young backpacker types and probably other single American tourists. I am wondering if I would like to potentially meet people, go out, interact, possible meet a girl; if the hostel would be a better enviornment than a hotel? I am not interested in a shared room hostel though. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    For me the deciding factor is how long I travel for, whether I will have time to get lonely or will I be back home in a few days. The longer I travel, the more likely I go to a hostel. Added after seeing your addition: For 4 nights I would go to a hotel, at least as long as its reviews are good. Cheap hotels tends to be less quality than private rooms in hostels at the same price, but that is not always the case.

I am assuming that you are not have issues with budget. and need to interact and go meet people, then more likely you need to stay at hostel, private room is a great option rather than a cheap hotel, I am agree with that as cheap hotels in Rome usually criticized due to their low quality. But it's all your decision to pick a place to stay, hotels or hostel is no matter if you want to go outside and meet people. just keep in mind that Rome is one of the most popular destination in Europe, so find a restaurant, bar, club, and any other attraction which you can meet girls is not a daunting task. On my last trip to Rome, I rent a small decent studio for me and my fiance at Paizza Navona, the room rate is lower than a decent hotels but it more affordable rather than a private room in hostel. This just an alternative option beside hotels and hostels if you are not already decide where you will be stay at.
