Are there any good hostels in Madrid, and are Madrid hostels cheap?

Is 2,000 USD enough for hostels and spending money for 2 month backpack trip through europe?

  • I already have my eurorail pass and plane tickets booked. I will be backpacking throughout europe and will be traveling at night time saving money and sleeping on the trains.......Obviously I will not be able to spend the whole time on the train and will need to stay in hostels. I was wondering if $2,000 USD is enough money to use for 2 months backpacking through Europe alone?? If not, how much money would you think I would need. My friend who went to Europe several times told me that it seems possible especially if all I am doing is sightseeing and eating cheaply, only going to supermarkets for food and eating vender food, no nice restaurants......Any help is appreciated.....I plan on going through the following countries, cities, 1. Lisbon, Portugal 2. Madrid and Barcelona (Spain) 3. Paris, France 4. London, United Kingdom 5. Brussels, Belgium 6. Amsterdam, Netherlands 7. Berlin and Munich and Frankfurt, Germany 8. Warszawa, Poland 9. Prague, Czech Republic

  • Answer:

I budget that amount PER MONTH - minimum. If you're going all that way you want to be able to do things and go places so I would either suggest cutting the time short or trying to get more money!

2,000 is a good start, but I would really recommend trying to save upwards of 3,500. It's better to have too much than not enough.

If you are backpacking, then I think it probably is enough as long as you are eating food from small vendors and from grocery stores. Just spend cautiously up front, the worst thing that can happen is running out of money in eastern Europe....

not even close, you'll need about 4 times that london will chew huge amounts of money, so will austria, amsterdamn, germany, infact all of the eu will rape your pocket

About 9 years ago I spent $1000 on a month-long trip to Ireland. This included the plane ticket. You will probably want to look up current money-exchange rates for these different countries, that will help give you an idea of how far your dollar would go. I'd also recommend joining some travel forums for more info. A good one would probably be http://www.backpackeurope.com/. Good luck and have fun!

Not even close. The exchange rate is horrible and that amount will last three weeks, four tops, IF you're lucky.

NO!! I went to Europe for a month and took $2000. And I ran out of money. If you don't want to carry a lot of cash on you, make sure you have a debit or credit card that will work abroad. Also, even though you think you will be eating cheaply, in some countries ie: England, France, food is very expensive. I would bring more than $2000.00, better to have more than less! have a good trip

Yes, basically your budget for $2000 for two month is $33 a day, which is definitely doable. Just make sure if you spend more one day to make up for it the next and you should be okay.

Not if George Bush keeps lowering interest rates and raising gas prices.
