Two 18 year old girls traveling around Europe from the u.s. for a month?
-
me and my friend are hoping to travel around europe for a month during the summer. places: ireland(dublin area), uk(london, maybe scotland), france(paris), belgium(brussels), luxembourg, italy(rome, venice, florence), germany and poland. we realize its alot of spaces to go to in a month but we were planning on staying in one area in each country and move onto the next. we are going to cut down a little after more research. staying: hostels and with extended families, family friends. transportation: rental cars, trains and ferries. we're not much of party people so most of the things we would be doing are sight seeing, hiking, and just exploring. and we're both responsible people, and good with money saving. we're trying to make this trip cheap as possible without ending up in the wrong(bad) places. what are some points of views on this? is it dangerous for two girls? places to avoid? things we need to take caution about? is the trip possible in a month? estimated cost (cheap as possible)? any places we should particularly cut out of our list? suggestions? places you would suggest to go instead? we both love and want to see country sides, art, medieval ruins and such; any suggestions? anything would be greatly appreciated.

Hey :) iam 18 years old too and i'm italian. So in general europe isn't a dangerous place , here it's hard to find people with guns, and there are lot of cops but like every place in the world u must be careful because there are some ''rules'' to follow if u want to avoi any kind of problem. If you go to big town like Rome , Paris or London always be carefull at ur wallet because there are lot of people who are really good in pickpocket ( i don't know if its called like that) Second point , I don't know if its the same there but here boys loves strangers so try to understand who is a good person and who is not. I think you should avoid almost all suburbs of european town. Not because its dangerous but also because towns like paris have giant suburb and u can loose yourself. About the price: Europe is not very cheap , every country have cheap and expensive things , for example in italy cigarettes , alcohol and traditional food ddoesnt cost much. Lets talk about the places , I live in Milan but i think Florence is probably one of the most beautiful town in the world , after u go there one time you will fall in love forever , i'll suggest to do not visit the ''Uffizi'' if u don't like paint because it can be very boring , if you have some free time visit also Monteriggioni ( its a very little town in the center of tuscany but it has some wonderful medieval walls) and also Siena can be very nice. I can't give you my advice about Rome because i never been there but everybody say that is a beautiful place. In Italy try to avoid using taxis and public bus because taxis are expensive and bus are often late , train is better and but cost a bit more than bus. I'll give you a list of some good town to visit in europe and if you have time you can check on wikipedia if it look good. Siena ( Italy) Monteriggioni ( Italy) Rouen ( France ) Amsterdam ( Holland) Munich ( Germany) Mont-Saint Michel ( France) Dublin ( Ireland) North of Ireland ( not northern ireland :D) Barcelona (spain) Turin (Italy) Lugan (switzerland) And remember that in some country in europe u need to have an I.d card or a passport if u are in the street. And a big suggestion , if you visit medieval town or old places don't look for macdonald , try to discover the traditional food :) (sorry for my english its a Fail Xd )

First suggestion, get a keyboard with a working shift key. You'd need to exercise normal street smarts like you would back home. Also, get a local cell phone to call 112 (our equivelant of 911) in case you need it. Do be aware that you may not be the party type but hostels tend to attracts those kinda people. So pack earplugs and a good padlock for the lockers. Read some travel guides, firm up the itenary and start thinking on how you get from one country to the next. Rental cars is not going to be a realistic option. 1. one-way international rentals are insanely expensive. 2. most rental companies expect you to have your license at least a full year 3. If rental companies rent at all to anyone under 21 or 23 you will pay a hefty insurance premium 4. Most Americans I've seen lack the driving skills to handle a stick shift trough a typical European traffic situation

Is it dangerous: No, on the whole European countries, especially those in Western Europe, are much safer to live in and travel around than anywhere in the US. Places to avoid: Only places you'd avoid in your own cities. Dark alleyways, wandering around the city in the middle of the night. Is the trip possible in a month: You do not have enough time to visit and enjoy all the places on your list. Remember that Europe is a large place, and travelling between each of your major stops will take a full day. As for the rest of your questions, I really suggest you get a good travel guide such as Lonely Planet's "Europe on a Shoestring". This book is aimed at young budget travellers like yourselves, and provides information on costs; hostels and budget hotels; transport between countries and within each country and city; what to see and where to go, including a few quirky places; health and safety tips; suggested itineraries; and much, much more. Don't forget to take out travel insurance before you leave home. And, finally, the best way to travel around Europe is by train. Forget hiring a car, at 18 you too young to hire a car from the reputable companies (need to be 23 or 25) and you do not want to be driving around European cities, it's just not worth the hassle.

have you watch the movie Taken?! It similar, two 18yr old girls traveling to Europe (Good movie) n.n just try not to talk to strangers and let them know where you are staying or going :D Have fun :))
If you like hiking and exploring then I would suggest visiting Slovenia. It's a perfect hiking destination and it has a lot of other outdoor activities to do. It has a beautiful countryside, imagine something like Bavaria but with higher hills, also has parts that look like Tuscany and NW part is an Alpine part with the best mountain views of all Alpine countries. The country has lots of castles and also a lot of churches if you're interested in that. http://www.slovenia.info/

Me and my friend are two girls and we're going to europe this summer as well. I think you should definitely be careful about where you go for instance I was told to keep alert when traveling in the eastern european countries. Though you should be alert always when traveling to a different country. I booked almost all of my stays through this site called airbnb.com. The site is safe and you just have to make sure whatever areas you choose to stay in are safe. Do research. If you go to Paris you should definitely visit Van Gogh's burial site in a village called Auvers-sur-Oise, 30 mins from central Paris by train. This is where Van Gogh got all of his inspiration so it should be a beautiful site. If you visit paris try to stay out of the 9th and 10th arrondissements, i got this advise from a Parisian. Also I have read that one should try to avoid single digit arrondissements. I booked all my stays in europe through this site called airbnb.com. Its cheaper and a better experience I think in my opinion because you actually get to live like a local. I've noticed after all of my research that sometimes it might be cheaper to fly within europe for instance I'm going from paris to barcelona and it's costing me about on 37euros maybe 45-50 us dollars. the euro rail passes are also good to have. good luck

Without any doubt...crime is everywhere...use your brain, your intuition, go on searching a healthy balance of trust and mistrust. Your age could be a problem in order to rent a car. You should use public transport vehicles, like Deutsche Bahn (DB). In general they do have low prices if you know how to use their special offers. It will be expensive if you want to travel fast and spontaneously. Thus think of your journeys goal - see a lot, travel cheap, being secure. Sometimes you can´t have all your needs satisfied at once. Back to DB special offers...two adults can cross the whole german republic from the north to the south by one day by paying up to 400 Euro in 6 hours, or 70 Euro in 12 hours. By using following page you can figure it out: http://www.bahn.de/i/view/GBR/en/index.shtml I think some of these special offers are not published in english. They are called "Hessen-Ticket" or "Bayern-Ticket", only valid for use in a certain federal state like Hesse or Bavaria upon certain times (for example 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. within a week, or a whole weekend through). They´re dependend to the "Streckennetz" (lines of railways-system, area of public transport system) of each federal state. See here...http://www.bahn.de/p/view/buchung/karten/streckennetz.shtml It could be necessary to be member of international youth-hostelling-agency in order to find / get an accomodation...take a look to this youth-hostels... first located in Nuremberg, center of city: http://jugendherberge.de/jh/bayern/nuernberg/index.shtml.en second northern Hesse, countryside : http://www.burgludwigstein.de/Die-Burg.2.0.html?&L=1, that´s away fom typical tourist routes, but being centered to the middle of germany. Within the closer surrounding you´ll find... http://www.wartburg-eisenach.de/frame_wt.htm http://www.erlebnisgruenesband.de/en/gruenes-band/europa.html http://d13.documenta.de/de/ http://deutsche-maerchenstrasse.com/en/home/startseite-routenverlauf.html http://www.deutsche-fachwerkstrasse.de/uk/index.php
Sounds like you'll be ok. Watch out for petty crime like pick pockets, especially in London and Paris. London and Paris have quite seedy, dangerous neighborhoods near wealthy areas so try to avoid wandering too far away from tourist locations. Other than that I think you'll be fine. I'm jealous. : ) One place I would suggest would be the lake district in northern England. It's insanely beautiful and often overlooked. I don't really know how much it would cost, I know the cost of living is higher over here in Europe but that's about it.
