Answer:
I live in Budapest Hungary. Its a big, busy, dirty city. Its not too expencive, it depends on what part of the city you are in. There are some youth hostles you can stay at for a fairly good cost here, I dont know any website addresses though. The food here is good, but very expensive if bought in tourist parts. Your best bet for food would be to go to small Hungarian restaurants away from the tourist sections. These have excelent food and the prices aren't too expencive.A meal costs about 1500 forints. The exchange rate right now between USD and Hungarian money is about 210 forints to 1 USD. There are a bunch of touristy things to do here, many museums, and historical buildings and places. There are also some great hiking hills on the Buda side where you could go for a nice walk in the woods. Some mut sees would be the castle (var), heros square(husok ter), parliament, margit island (sziget). There is a Budapest card you can buy if you come which is good on all the public transportation, and give you free enterance to many of the museums here. There are also some small tourist towns you can take the green train (Hev) to which are a bit out of Budapest. Along the river on the Buda side if you near Arpad bridge(hid) there are some roman ruins. There are great pastry shops all throught out the town which you wouldnt want to miss, also the icecream is amazing. www.budapestsun.com www.Hungary.com have good information in English.

I told you I would try to answer your questions, but this is one I know nothing about. I am sure Budapest is a beautiful place, but I've only seen it in pictures.

Budapest is beautiful. Still affordable, but I agree with the above - a week is more than enough. I suggest going to www.vrbo.com - you can find apartnemts and condos for rent all over the world there and it saves you money on hotel. Plus having your own kitchen gives you choice when it comes to food - hungarian food doesn't agree with everybody.

Budapest is a experience, 1 week there is more then enough there, staying at a hotel is way over priced also. You best bet is rent out a timeshare from someone there. Budapest has alot of history and is known for its culture and entertainment. People there are not shy so dont be afraid to ask for help from the locals. Good Luck
