Answer:
Eastern Orthodoxy is the dominant religion in Greece, Serbia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Cyprus, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro. There are also significant Orthodox communities in Middle East, Western Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, North America and South America as well. In Orthodox Church, the preparation for Orthodox Easter (Pascha) begins on Clean Monday with starting of Great Lent, which lasts for forty continuous days. The Orthodox Church bases calculations on the Julian Calendar. That's why sometimes it falls on different dates with the Catholic easter, which is calculated according to the Gregorian Calendar. How we celebrate it? Easy. In the morning we greet each other with a special Easter salutation. The salutation begins with the phrase, "Christ is Risen!" The response is "Truly, He is Risen!" (In Russian course!) In this way we commemorate the Resurrection of Christ. Then we have a traditional meal (for lunch) eating dyed eggs (usually red; to symbolize Christ's blood) and special baked goods named "Kulich" or "Pascha". There's also an abundance of meat, after 40 day lent. A day before there's also mass, where you need to bring all the goodies that you're planning on eating for Easter lunch in order to spray them with holy water.. + Easter Dates + Easter is calculated to follow the Jewish feast of Passover. Catholics and most Protestants use the new Gregorian calendar decreed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to calculate the date of Easter. The Orthodox Church uses the old Julian calendar introduced in 46 B.C.E. by Julius Caesar. In 2008, the Orthodox Easter will fall on April 6 (Julian) and April 19 (Gregorian). For more information, see: Catholic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregorian_calendar http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/easter.html Greek Orthodox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_calendar http://www.smart.net/~mmontes/OrthEasttbl.html Catholic: The time of Easter is based on the cycles of the moon, the equinox, and seasons and things in nature. In simple (?) terms Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox (the first day of spring). + The word "Easter" + The English word "Easter" relates to Estre, a Teutonic (German) goddess of the rising light of day and spring. No one seems to know why this English word was used for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The great feast of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ was celebrated long before the unchristian English word "Easter" was first used. And the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is directly related to the Jewish feast of Passover going back to about 3,000 B.C.E. Most other languages use the Jewish/Christian word for "Passover" for the great celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ that English speakers call "Easter." The Greek term for "Passover" is Páskha. It is the Aramaic form of the Hebrew pesach (meaning passover). Other languages: Afrikaans: Paasfees Albanian: Pashkët Breton: Pask Seder Catalan: Pasqua Chamorro: Pasgua Cornish: Pask Danish: Påske or Paaske Dutch: Pasen or Paschen Esperanto: Paskon Finnish: Pääsiäistä French: Pâques Galician: Pascuas Icelandic: Páska Indonesian: Paskah Italian: Pasqua Jèrriais: Pâques Latin: Pascha Norwegian: Påske Portuguese: Páscoa Russian: Pascha Scottish: Pask Sicilian: Pasqua Spanish: Pascuas Swahili: Pasaka Swedish: Påsk Welsh: Pasg Even in the German provinces of the Lower Rhine where the Teutonic goddess Estre had its origins, the people call the feast Paisken not Ostern. With love in Christ.

Did you know that Orthodox Easter (Pasxa) happens not only in Russia, but in all Orthodox countries. Even the Copts in Egypt have their Easter at the same day as us.
