How many protected areas in the world?

Why didnt the Nordic, Slavic tribes settle in warmer more protected areas of the world..such as in sub-Africa?

  • isnt sub saharan Africa a bit nicer climate and better for year round living than Scandinavia or Russia? ....ALSO, IS EASILY REACHED BY SAILING ALONG THE COAST LINE..? WHY THE VIKINGS COULDNT HAVE MANAGED THIS? why the Romans didnt do as well ? not just talking about the top part,,but the more tropical nicer parts..such as around Victoria falls, etc? please explain what you can...WHAT WAS SO INTERESTING ABOUT THE DESERT ESPECIALLY FOR THE ROMANS AND BABYLONIANS? thanks for your answers!

    Have you ever looked at a world map? Before satellites and astronomy navigation of this type was extremely difficult. Also the concept of going south for warmer places didn't exist without knowledge of the compass. I think you overestimate the geographical knowledge the vikings had. They thought the earth was flat.

yeah, they didnt really have satellites, and a map of the whole world,along with their climate demographics. with that said, in russia and scandanavia, the weather is great, cold winters, but they adapted to it. living in extremely hot weather, is just as bad as cold weather.

I don't know why they didn't colonize though norsemen reached africa, my guess is trading slaves & services were far more lucrative
