Can my cousin (15 yrs) travel to Africa without her parents?

Is it safe for a 15 year old to fly ALONE to Moscow?

  • My 14-year old best friend lives in Moscow, Russia and invited me to live with her for one week in July. I would probably be flying nonstop from D.C. with an unnaccompanied minor tag. That way someone could walk me through customs and make sure that I get in the right people's hands when I get there. I can read Russian and understand a little bit.... Is it dangerious (I am caucasian white girl 15 yrs old) for me to go with me friend and her family? She has a summer house and an apartment in the center of Moscow... I'm nervous but could it be the experience of a lifetime? P.S. her parents and her would be with me all the times and they are very very nice. My parents deeply trust her parents, I spent the last 3 months practically living with her in the US. And there would be a travel attendant flying with me to make sure I get there safely... And... they would be paying for everything once I get there... (They are multimillionaires) and have a safe gated community where they live... It's like she is part of my family. sweetest people...

  • Answer:

You will be totally safe. As you say, you will be escorted through airports and delivered to the right family. Nothing will go wrong. Just enjoy the trip and the time you spend in Russia.

I'm 17 and I don't think it's safe to be traveling alone but that's me. I think about human trafficking and get scared but at the same time I live in a neighborhood that is very dangerous and walk to and from school everyday nothing has happened. Just carry pepper spray, (If you can) and something sharp like a pen. In case stuff happens.

The way you describe that you will be escorted through customs, I'm sure you will be safe. Just don't venture on the Moscow streets all alone.

I think the main danger is navigation since you don't know the language.
