How do you say 'I love you' or just 'love' in Igbo?

How do I say "I love you" in Portuguese?

  • No offense to everyone that wants to help, but I'd really like to hear from a native speaker of Portugal Portuguese, and not someone who's looked this up on Google Translator...so...in Portugal, how would a person say: "I love you" as between good friends, like a man and a woman? Would this vary if it was the man saying it, or the woman saying it? Would it vary if it was a younger boy and younger girl, as opposed to an adult man and woman? Would it vary if it were two women friends saying it to each other? Is there a sort of "casual" version as opposed to a more sincere friends-for-life version? How would you say "I love you" between family members, as in parent to child, or between siblings? How would you say "I love you" between lovers? Is there a "casual" way to say this, as in "Good morning, I love you, I'm off to work?" Is there a more "formal" way to say this, as in "I love you, will you marry me?" Is there a more wistful way to say this, as in "I miss you and I love you." And is there a more passionate, even randy, way to say this, the sort of way you'd say it while engaged in making out or sex? And again in these circumstances, does it make a difference if it is a man saying it to a woman, or a woman saying it to a man? A lot of questions, so lots of thanks for your help!

  • Answer:

--->"I love you" as between good friends, like a man and a woman? "Amo-te!" would be the correct translation for people in Love. "Adoro-te" would be for good friends Amo-te - > I love you Adoro-te -> I love you or I like you (it depends from the feelings of the person) Gosto/Gostar --> to like something or someone --->Would this vary if it was the man saying it, or the woman saying it? If you mean the gender of the word, .no. it doesn't. A man can say "Amo-te" to a woman and vice verse, and the same goes for "Adoro-te" --->Would it vary if it was a younger boy and younger girl, as opposed to an adult man and woman? Again I don'y think so. But kids tend to use more " "gosto/gostar" more then "Amo-te" or "adorar" (they're still kids). I only use "Amo-te" (I love you) for family and for a boyfriend (if I had one). But It all depends on the education and use of those words at home you know? --->Would it vary if it were two women friends saying it to each other? Again, If you mean the gender of the word, then no. I'm a girl and I use "Adoro-te" alot with my friends , boys or girls, and they know it means I care for them ---> Is there a sort of "casual" version as opposed to a more sincere friends-for-life version? Amo-te - > I love you (between people in Love) Adoro-te -> I love you or I like you (it depends from the feelings of the person. It can be used between people in love or just between friends) Gosto/Gostar --> to like something or someone This one is all about the feelings =P. --->How would you say "I love you" between family members, as in parent to child, or between siblings? In my family we use "Amo-te" (I love you) between my parents and me and my brother. (when we were kids, me and my brother used to say - I love you all the way to china! - LOL - we still say it sometimes these days xD.) --->How would you say "I love you" between lovers? Is there a "casual" way to say this, as in "Good morning, I love you, I'm off to work? "Amo-te" would be the most accurate. "Adoro-te" can also be used. ---> Is there a more "formal" way to say this, as in "I love you, will you marry me?" "Eu Amo-te! Casas-te comigo?" Is the most accurate- Again you can use "Adoro-te!" - "Adoro-te! Casas-te comigo?" ---> Is there a more wistful way to say this, as in "I miss you and I love you." "Tenho saudades tuas... Amo-te" or "Tenho saudades tuas... Adoro-te!" ---> And is there a more passionate, even randy, way to say this, the sort of way you'd say it while engaged in making out or sex? Again "Amo-te" and "Adoro-te" are your best options. You can't get more passionate and "classy" then "amo-te" or "Adoro-te". --->And again in these circumstances, does it make a difference if it is a man saying it to a woman, or a woman saying it to a man? No it doesn't make a diference, unless they don't reciprocate the feelings... I guess that's all. "Amo-te "and "Adoro-te", can be used by kids adults, women and men, it does make a diference the word that's used, only the feelings behind it. -- Sorry if it's not clear enough. I did th ebest I could considerin' you asked alot of questions. -- Hope it helps.

Hi, I'm Teresa, I'm portuguese and I've lived in Portugal all my life! To say I love you you usually say "amo-te", the only way to say it. But in a more formal way you add "eu", the same as "I", but people usually omit it. That would be "eu amo-te" and you would say that in a more formal occasion, when that's the more important thing in your speech. Lovers say it, friends say it and family members say it to each other as well, because it's the only way! Between to girls or between a girl and a boy, it's all the same. Teens and adults say it the same way. Women and men say it the same way, there's no difference! During sex or passionate acts you say "eu amo-te" or just "amo-te" ("I love you" or "love you"), it's ALWAYS the same thing. But while in English you say more "I love you" that just "love you" we usually say "amo-te". Simple, right? You can also say "Gosto de ti" for "I like you" and "Adoro-te" for "I adore you", they're also used pretty often!

Teresa ♥
