I'm traveling to Spain in May?

I'm going on a vacation to Portugal and Spain, and need traveling advice?

  • I land in Porto, Portugal and want to visit Barcelona (Spain), Lisbon(Portugal), Granada(Spain) and Madrid(Spain), i dont care which order i visit them in. My vacation is 14 days long, what is the cheapest way to travel between these cities, and do you know any websites offering good deals? Thanks :)

  • Answer:

Landing in Porto, stay there for a couple of days. Enjoy the Ribeira and the Port Wine cellars. If you're driving, then go to Lisbon, and follow this pattern (I did something similar and worked out perfectly): Lisbon to Madrid (quick stops in Evora - Roman temple - and Elvas. Then, already in Spain you must check the Roman ruins in Merida). Madrid to Barcelona. Then drive from Barcelona all way the Mediterranean coast to Grenada. If you don't have a car. Take the train from Porto to Lisbon. Fly from Lisbon to Madrid (you can find real cheap flight if you book ahead of time). Fly to Barcelona (also cheap). Take the train from Barcelona to Granada. Spend some time in Porto then take the Alfa Pendular, i.e., high speed train to Lisbon. It is easy to use, fast, comfortable and you'll see some scenery. You can log on to www.cp.pt (CP stands for Comboios de Portugal) or search on Portuguese Trains and get an English language web site You may want to fly to Madrid from Lisbon. Driving distance between Lisbon and Madrid is just under 400 miles and about the same Madrid to Barcelona You could take the train from Madrid to Barcelona but flying is a better option in terms of time. I suggest the train from Barcelona to Granada. Log on to www.raileurope.com for train info. Try any of the travel web sites like Priceline, Orbitz, Kayak or Expedia to look for deals or go directly to airline sites.

Barcelona is clear on the other side of Spain; even Madrid we had to fly to from Lisbon. Look at the cheap european airlines -some are really cheap for short hops. We flew Spann Air. Otherwise an overnight fast train.

Ryanair flies from Porto and is quite cheap. You can also catch the train.
