Is there a cheap train to get from Lithuania to Poland?

From Warsaw (Poland ) to Vilnius ( Lithuania )?

  • What's the best way to get from Warsaw ( Poland ) to Vilnius ( Lithuania ) ? What is the best route/price by Train or Bus? I would like to avoid flying if possible.

  • Answer:

From our contacts with PKP (Polish Railways) it would appear that there is two trains a day. The day trains are as follows: Depart Warszawa Centralna at 07:25 from platform I/7 on train service D10011 Pospieszny PKP InterCity arriving Sestokai at 14:48 Change Train Depart Sestoki at 15:03 on service 394RJ Międzynarodowy, Pospieszny arriving in Vilnius at 17:50. This is a second class only service. Depart Warszawa Centralna at 15:55 from platform II3 on train service D10 Pospieszny PKP InterCity, Sleeper train. Sleeper car available for part of the journey. Arrives Minsk at 01:58 Change Train – 95 minute wait in Minsk Depart Minsk 03:33 on service D5TJ Pospieszny 2nd class only with Sleeping Car Advanced bookings are COMPULSARY. Arrive Vilnius 08:00 Night Service by BUS: Departs Warszawa Centralna at 23:00 arriving in Vilnius at 07:50. Advance bookings are COMPULSARY on this service. Only operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Although the Eurolines service E705/E640 is cheaper, it should not be considered an option as departure from Warsaw is 04:10 on Sundays only and it is a section of the service from Rome to Klapedia service. Advanced booking is COMPULSARY. Fares are upon application to PKP, they cannot be booked on-line.

Definitely bus. Trains you have to change at the border. For prices and routes check the carriers' web sites: Ecolines, Eurolines, since prices and routes vary.

Eurolines coaches go from Warsaw to Vilnius. The journey takes about 10-12 hours: http://www.eurolines.com To book, you will need to book on the web site of the country of departure which is Poland. There is an English version of the web site available: http://www.eurolinespolska.pl (Polish Version) http://www.eurolinespolska.pl/index.php?lang=en (English Version) There fare is approximately 120 PLN (Polish Zloty) You can also go into a Eurolines office in Warsaw or an agent of Eurolines but you might need to book your ticket in advance. There is a train route available, it takes about the same amount of time (approx 10-11 hours) and costs in the region of 140 PLN (Polish Zloty) The train goes from Warsaw to the border town of Sestokia where you need to change to another train that goes to Vilnius. You can easily purchase the ticket from the ticket office at Warsaw station. I think the train is a better option because it's more comfortable than travelling on the Eurolines bus.
