Sczeczin To Berlin By Train, Couple Questions?
-
I'm gonna be in Poland this summer, and I'm gonna be traveling around, and I'm gonna be visiting some family in Sczeczin. Since it's so close, I wanna take a train to Berlin, since I've never been. I have a couple questions. How much are train tickets? Do trains travel everyday? How many times a day do trains travel? How long do trains travel? What times do they leave from both cities? How early should I arrive at the train station in both cities? Can I do it in one day? I won't have a place to stay in Berlin, so I wanna just make it a day trip. Take the train to Berlin, visit all the tourist attractions, and then head back to Sczeczin. 6 hours would be enough. I'm a fast walker, and all the stuff I wanna see is within walking distance, so I won't need a cab. I probably won't even take a cab from the train station. I wanna be back in Sczeczin before dark. I will be staying with family in Sczeczin so I don't need to worry about that. I don't know how close her house is to the train station though. So how much are taxis in American dollars? Also, are the trains safe? My grandma and her sister are too old to do a trip like this, so I will be traveling alone. Is Berlin a safe city? I'm an 18 year old American male, and I will be carrying a video camera. I don't wanna get mugged and have any of my things or documents stolen. Are the people in Berlin friendly? Do most people speak English? I know a little German, but not enough. Just some basic phrases. Also, how much time (if any), will we spend being checked at the border? And, how much money should I bring? I just need enough for one round trip ticket, and maybe some pocket money for souveniers, post cards, and food. Also, will they take American money? If so, what's the conversion rate? If not where can I exchange it? Any other information you think I need to know will be appreciated. Dzękuje

Answer:
There are three direct trains from Szczecin to Berlin: at 6.11 AM, 2.32 PM and 8,30 PM; there are more connections but you have to change trains. Travel time is around 2 hours. There is a problem with traveling back: only one direct train in the afternoon (5.18 PM). Thjere may be more trains in the summer. The Berlin Gesundbrunnen station that the train stops at is just north of city center; there is a convenient connection by S-Bahn (an overground subway, so to speak). Taxis in Szczecin cost about PLN 2-3 per kilometer (about $1 per kilometer). There is no border check - both Poland and Germany are in the Schengen area and the borders are only on the external perimeter of the area.

You know, you can always ask your family, look for all that on the internet - we are here to help, not to hear some sour words about the fact that we don't look for the solutions of YOUR problems quicker! :) The train takes around 2 hours. And you will be so kind to see the hours an the prices yourself: http://rozklad-pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? Because of the fact that for us from Szczecin the airport in Berlin is closer than the airports in Poland, we go there every day and there is a lot of companies with small buses and shuttle cars. They go to the airports, to the center of Berlin, etc, etc. It costs 75 PLN and takes 3 hours. You have a bus every hour. You can choose between two companies: BERLINIA and FOLLOW ME. Both good, price the same. The PKS or other companies from Szczecin organise trips to Berlin every day. Transport, some support, sometimes a guide. Check it out. Being back before dark - are you afraid of something? Sorry, the day is not 20 hours long, and Berlin is a bit far, so it can happen that the sun won't be always with you... Taking into consideration that you'll pass 4-6 hours traveling. We are in Schengen, so in 90% of the cases there is no control at the border at all. It happened to me once in last 3 years. We don't take american money in UE. Make an effort and exchange them. You exchange it where it's marked KANTOR/EXCHANGE?WECHSTERSTUBE.
