What is the drinking age in Poland?

Is it true that there's no drinking age in Poland?

  • I was there for 2 months and everyone was telling me drinking age is 18, then I get home and find out that's only the purchase age, and that there is actualy no age limit on drinking. Is this correct?

  • Answer:

Minors in Poland, as in other countries, have limited legal liability. I.e.: you can't punish them in the same way as you punish adults. Unless you have a better answer from someone more savvy in legal matters, I would say that, given the vagueness of your question, you close to being right. Surely though nobody puts drunk teens to jail in America. It is of course illegal to serve as well as sell alcohol to minors (http://www.slaskie.pl/kopm/ustawa1.html). When a minor is found being drunk, the investigation will typically find an adult guilty of offering or not protecting this alcohol to/from minors.

You can't buy and drink alcohol unless you are 18. Underage drinkers' parents are held responsible if their children are caught drunk.

No. You must have 18 or more to buy or drink.

I'm fairly certain that at age 18 you are an adult in the eyes of the polish law, so therefore you are allowed to buy alcohol and drink it. Under 18 means you are still a minor and can be punished for buying/drinking
