Do I need a Schengen Visa if I am the US permanent resident?

I'm a Colombian permanent resident in Spain do I need a schengen visa to go to France?

  • Answer:

No you do not need a schengen visa to travel to France on the basis of your residence permit as "a residence permit issued by a Schengen Member State is considered equivalent to a Schengen visa" http://ec.europa.eu/justice_home/faq/freetravel/faq_freetravel_en.htm#borders. Therefore you are able to visit France as a tourist for up to 90 days under the same conditions as holding a Schengen visa. You are free to travel within the Schengen zone as long as you carry both your passport and your residents permit. P.S. - if you are planning to work or stay longer than 90 days then a Schengen visa would not entitle you to do either anyway and you would be subject to the immigration requirements of France on the basis of your Colombian nationality for any long-term residence.

How long- if its under 3 months then no. If its over, since your a columbian resident then yes, but chances are you wont have to bother if you dont plan to work.
