How can I buy Septa train tickets?

How to Buy Train Tickets in Advance for Kids in the Netherlands?

  • We live in the U.S. and are planning to travel to Europe this summer. We wanted to take a train from Netherlands (doesn't matter which city) to Belarus/Russia. We are traveling with 2 small kids and I am aware that there are discounts for small children. I was told that it is better to buy tickets in advance, because they may not be available later. My question is: Is it possible for our acquaintance in the Netherlands to buy tickets for all of us in advance. I am asking because I know in some countries you can't buy a child's ticket without showing their passport or some other legal document proving their age. Since out dutch friends are not going to have any documents proving the child's age, will they be able to get child's tickets or not? Thank you in advance.

You can buy tickets online at www.ns.nl, but not to Minsk or Moscow. I have looked for several ways, but i think this site is the best: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?ld=96132&country=DEU&rt=1&newrequest=yes&&country=USA There is a site for international tickets by the HiSpeed (http://www.nshispeed.nl/) but that only serves the HiSpeed trains. So the service of http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/ the Deutsche Bahn suits you best. You can choose to buy tickets for adults or children (0-5, 6-14 yr), no need to show their age, you have to do that on the train. There are also international ticketservices at the biggest trainstations, like Amsterdam central station, Utrecht and Rotterdam. Open from 7.45 to 21(Utrecht), or 7 to 20:30 (Rotterdam) or 6 to 21 (Amsterdam). And yes, do buy them in advance! Hope you have a good trip!

You will not need to show their papers when buying the ticket as far as I know, but you may need to show it when you are traveling. But if they are clearly within the age group, it is even likely that you will not be asked for their passports when showing the train tickets. Of course, going to Belarus you will pass several borders where you will need to show them. In case you worry, send your friends a scan or a fax of the ID page of their passport, the page with their name, date of birth and the passport number, that is all that is needed in any case. If they have difficulties getting the tickets at one of the Dutch stations, the German ticket site is rather helpful, also in selling tickets: http://www.bahn.com/i/view/GBR/en/index.shtml And there is a shop in the Netherlands that is specialist in train tickets, they have stores in Leiden and Amsterdam but will also sell via E-mail contact: http://www.treinreiswinkel.nl/

I bought tickets on line a few years ago and I think they just asked if it was an adult or child fare...no ID needed. Now that's not to say that when you go to pick up the tickets or on the train that you wont be asked, but for the most part, unless your kids look a lot older than they are, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
