How much money will I need for a 7 day trip to Amsterdam?

• My best friend and I (in our 40's) are planning our dream trip to Amsterdam. We will be flying from the US, staying at a medium priced hotel, site seeing, and hitting the coffeeshops frequently. Our main purpose of going is the coffeeshops. Anyway...how much do we each have to save to afford flight, hotel, food, some site seeing, and several daily TRIPS to the coffeehouses?

  If your main reason is for getting stoned, too much. Flying from the US is roughly $1000, it is possible to find cheaper flights, specially from the main cities on the east coast, but more expensive is possible too. It depends on when you are flying, when you book and your booking skills. I find it cheaper to leave booking to my travel agency. For Amsterdam hotel, sight seeing, eating out and a moderate amount of drinking you will need about $200 to $300 per person per day. I do not use coffee shops and would not know how much you spend there, but as while being there you would spend less on sight seeing, you may not need to change the number I mention above. Amsterdam is not in need of an other couple of stone heads and being stoned will be easier and cheaper if you stay at home. If you make the effort to come all the way to Amsterdam, come to see the city, enjoy live in the Netherlands as a tourist. Maybe one visit to a coffee shop to be able to tell you have 'done' it.
