    Contact your local dierenbescherming. http://www.dierenbescherming.nl/ if you want to adope an animal. Some of them also need volunteers. Another option is a dierenambulance (http://www.fdn.nl/) In both cases little or no Dutch skills may be an issue. Contact them and ask, worst they can do is say no.

In the Netherlands there are lots of different organizations who take care of pets. Almost every city has an asylum for pets in the area who always are interested in volunteers. (taking care of the animals, cleaning the place, walking the dogs etc) And there are asylums for special animals. But most of the organizations have a website in Dutch, and there are so many of them that it would help if we know in which area/city you are. I'm sure if you asked around (neighbour, friends) that someone can give you the address of an asylum in the area were you live.

I like to help out in my neighbourhood by wandering the streets and collecting stray/escaped animals and bringing them back to my house, where I care for them in secrecy. (Note: be prepared for neighbours to ask about location of their pets.)
