Is it possible to go to a college overseas like in Amsterdam?

Moving to Amsterdam.?

  • Hi, I'm 15 and I'm portuguese and I'd really like to move to Amsterdam when I'm like 20 or something. Thing is: I wanna go to flying college so I can be a pilot. But if I do that it will be very hard for me to learn in dutch, so I move there when I finish it. But would an airline accept a foreign person as well as they would accept a dutch one? And what do I have to do to go to there? Do I have to change my citizenship? I'd really appreciate if you guys tell me what I would need to do. Plus: Is it expensive to live there? Is this a good idea, because I would really like to live there sometime... Thanks. PS: I would like to live there for 2-4 just to experience it, and if it goes well I might consider really living there. I know I'm young but seriously try to help me instead of telling me I'm too young for that, please. Thanks.

Well, you're a Portuguese citizen, right? If you are, then you're also a European Union citizen. You'll have no problem with working and living there. You'd just have to register with the authorities. You don't need to change your citizenship. It would be a good idea to learn Dutch. Although, most people in Amsterdam speak very good English, it would still be helpful to learn Dutch to open more job opportunities.

As a pilot you'd be expected to make a flight announcement in Dutch and banter with your cabin crew in dutch so yes, start learning it. Airlines would not hold it against you that you're portugese as long as you can fly well enough. Expensive. Well, the last time I was in Portugal I was surprised at how cheap a lot of things are.

If you want to live in the Netherlands start learning Dutch now! The official language is Dutch, not English, not Portuguese.

With an European passport you can stay and work anywhere in Europe. But Holland (the Netherlands) is Expensive and airline pilot training ditto. Learn your flying in Portugal - only one problem to cope with. After completion you can apply at any airline...... Even Qatar.... Peace.
