How much spending will I need for a year abroad?

I am concerned , probably no need but i am spending a lot of money to go to tromso in norway mid feb next year

• to see the northern lights hopefully and to participate in some ski ing etc , is the snow guaranteed then and how much ?

  UK reply Have been to Tromso twice in February to see the Northern Lights. We were very lucky and saw lights both times! INCREDIBLE! Went ski-ing, snowmobiling and dog sledging also, don't forget the museum and aquarium, they specialise in the Arctic species so it's very interesting. Whatever you do wrap up! It can be bitterly cold at night on top of the mountain! This was our first ever "cold place" visit and where I learnt jeans are useless! Beware! You can get hooked on cold places! We have been to Svalbard, Antarctica (twice), Greenland, Alaska, N. Sweden and N. Finland since, and are going on a Russian icebreaker from Murmansk into the Arctic pack ice in July! Needless to say we have full cold weather clothes now! Our lowest temperature so far is -34C!
