How long does it take to travel from Amesterdam to Prague,Czech Republic by train?

What is the Cheapest way for a college student to go to Amesterdam from the US?

  • Well i'm currently in college right now so i'm trying to give myself a nice graduation present without spending a ton on travel, I would like to know if anyone knows a cheaper way to get to amesterdam. I found some flights straight there for like $1100 thats a little to steep for me. I heard you can fly to other countries /cities and then take the train in. Well if anyone has any advice that would be great thanks mike

  • Answer:

call a travel agent and ask about a consoliditated fare. I just pulled a fare to China that was 1230.00 published but was 1050 with a consolidator. ****When are you trying to go? If you book tickets for Friday through Sunday travel, then you pay more about $25-$30 each direction not much but that can make a difference. Also if you are traveling during the summer months from May through the first part of September you pay more for your tickets. New York is normally one of the least expensive cities in the US to fly to Amsterdam. Changing your city may look like it is changing the price initially, but if you only want to travel to Amsterdam, you will make up for it in train fares. I still suggest the consolidator fares. IF you talk to a good travel agent and give the some flexible dates you may find better fares. The key word though is be flexible.

Have a look at http://www.expedia.com you can find flights from any airport that are direct (usually much more expensive) or flights that have 1 or 2 transfer stops, and these will usually be cheaper.

You are not looking at the right sites. I would suggest buying your tickets from Student Universe or STA Travel. You can definetly fly for much cheaper than that if you go to these sites. These sites offer discount airfare to college students. I spent a semester abroad in the Netherlands and I bought my ticket from Student Universe and my boyfriend bought his off of STA Travel. If you don't feel safe buying your ticket online, STA Travel has stores in New York if you would rather buy them in person. At the time, I flew in Brussels, Belgium and took a train into Amsterdam because it was way cheaper, but I just checked on the Student Universe website and it was about $474 to go to NY to Amsterdam and around the same to go into NY to Brussels. Oh yeah and another tip. You might want to consider flying in the middle of the week. It might be cheaper than compared to flying on a Friday or Saturday. You can get a ticket for seriously WAY cheaper than $1100 or even $800! Here is a site, it's in Dutch though, where you can get SUPER cheap tickets. I looked one up for you, if you were to travel from 03/01 to 03/15 your return ticket from NY to Amsterdam flying with KLM would be $458.93 with taxes. The site is pretty easy to navigate without knowing dutch so just give it a try. http://vliegtarieven.nl/ ANOTHER site with almost equally as cheap prices (and in english) is... http://www.cheapflights.com/ Good luck with your search and hope you have a great holiday!

You should consider flying out of other nearby NYC area airports. Flying out of Newark may be slightly cheaper than flying out of JFK. Also, Newark is Continental's hub on the east coast and I know Continental has lots of nonstop flights to Amsterdam. You might want to consider breaking up the trip into 2 flight segments. I would recommend trying to fly to Paris or Rome, and then going on to Amsterdam. Try orbitz.com for flights - enter in 2 different flight searches.

You don't tell us from where in the US, it can make a huge difference! That is way too much, I go every year from Boston for around $800.
