Did i need a transit visa?

Do I need a transit visa for Amsterdam on a US Visa?

  • I'm wondering if I need a transit visa for Amsterdam... --> I have a valid US visa (Student visa valid for 5 years) --> I hold an Indian passport --> NOT a US citizen/green card holder. Do I need a transit visa for Amsterdam then? If I don't, could you also let me know how to reach the city from Schiphol airport? THANKS!!

  • Answer:

4 hours is too short to leave the airport and go to the city, you would have to start your return journey before you even reach the center of the city. In your case I think you would not even be able to get into the city without applying for a visa before leaving home, as this site mentions that you can travel without a visa for the Schengen area (which includes the Netherlands,) and without needing a transit visa as long as stay in the transit lounge, have an onward confirmed ticket and do not stay longer than the first available plane. http://www.skyteam.com/about/travelhelp/travelinfo.html By the way, if you change twice within Europe, you might need to get a Schengen visa, as flights within the Schengen zone are like domestic travel and without passport control for the people who live in the area, which would mean that you would not arrive in the transit lounge.
